I myself use LanguageTool, a grammar, style, and spelling checker, as an \u201coverlay\u201d over Google Docs whenever I can, finding myself missing the supplementary tool when I use Microsoft Word.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While such tools are useful, they (in my opinion) do not replace clear thought. I often tell non-native students that if they cannot express themselves well in their native language, none of the English writing tools will help them present their thoughts better in this second language.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to <a href=\"https:\/\/languagetool.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/languagetool.org\/\">LanguageTool<\/a>, my students and colleagues find the following tools of use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grammarly.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.grammarly.com\/\">Grammarly<\/a> (subscription tool)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/quillbot.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/quillbot.com\/\">QuillBot<\/a> (open, particularly helpful in finding alternative phrasing)<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/translate.google.com\/\">GoogleTranslate<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/glosbe.com\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/glosbe.com\/\">Glosbe Dictionary<\/a> (translator for terms in context)&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>I tried to find a comparison chart created by universities or libraries for these tools, but was unsuccessful.
